There is a strong protective urge that manifests against any and all who are perceived as threatening their loved ones, and although the snake may be quite calm and serene on the outside, there is the sense of coiled power brewing within.
Another meaning of snake is letting the old go and accepting the new. Snake represents transformation, death and rebirth, the taking on of a new skin, new roles, responsibilities and even attitudes. Once it has fully shed its old skin, the snake's eyes clear up and it leaves the place, never looking back.
